Out of lawn care and into dog waste disposal.
Starting a lawn care business and getting a bunch of commercial grade equipment can be quite expensive. One of my friends from the Gopher Lawn Care Business Forum wrote and told me how he got out of offering lawn care and now specializes in dog waste disposal. He wrote ” have shot down the lawn mowing and have been pushing the poop scooping business and I am pleased with the results.”
Steve: “Can you tell us a little about why you decided to go with the dog waste removal business and shut down your lawn care business?”

Lawn Care to Dog Waste Removal Business
Chris: “Keep in mind that this is my extra money job for now. I am only doing this part time as I work a full time job as well. At first I was kind of hesitant to offer this service for the obvious messy reasons, but aside from the “I scoop poop” factor when talking to people it’s really not bad. Since I work nights at my fulltime job, I’m used to really long hours in the winter with the snow plowing. I have been mowing lawns for 2 years using my 22″ mower and it wasn’t horrible, but it was slow going. I did well and had reached the point where if I were going to add customers I HAD to get a large walk behind or zero turn and a trailer.  I kept thinking this is gonna cost me 4 to 6 grand.  Most of my lawns are $30 dollar lawns which is not bad. I would spend 45 minutes to an hour there and was satisfied with the income. Then I really started looking at the poop scooping business. The cost for the basic equipment is $30.  I can spend more if I want but even if I went hog wild and bought everything I want. Here is what I got so far:
- Used pickup truck like a ford ranger $5000
- Decals $300
- Laptop $500 for in the truck
- Printer $60 for in the truck
- Water tank (for cleaning equipment) $100
- Scoop $15
- Rake $6
- Shirts and other misc stuff $300
