Lawn care business website tips.

Have you ever been offered a trade from a mowing customer for lawn care services in return for something they could perform? In this discussion from the Gopher Lawn Care Business Forum, we hear from one entrepreneur who was offered website services. It got him questioning what he needed in an online presence and if he should swap lawn care for a website.

One new lawn care business owner wrote “so I feel like the time has come to build a lawn care business website. I had a guy offer free website building in exchange for me providing him with lawn care. After several emails he just fell off the face of the earth. So here I am now trying to figure out what to do, more or less, and how to make one. I have no clue where to start and clients are inquiring if I have one. Any suggestions?”

A second lawn care business owner responded “there are many things that people like to do in life and believe me FREE website building is not one of them. A free website would not really be free, you would have to pay for it in the back end of the deal.

You have to make a decision because I do not know if you have a family or not but there are 3 things that every business person needs;

  1. Run the business
  2. Spend time with family
  3. or build and rank their website

I find that there really is only room for 2 of those, unless you do not want to sleep. When I started, I picked ‘to run the business and build my site.’ It cost me my family. There is not enough time in the day to do everything, pick up on one thing and another drops.

One of those 3 things are going to suffer so, from my experience and in my opinion,  it would be best to hire out the web site building.”

A third shared “before I had signs on my trucks, I built our company website. Fast forwards two years later, it is the foundation for how we are found along with word of mouth. Of course we handed out flyers in the beginning to get rolling (we still hand out flyers)… but the website has been the spring of our growth…

Season ten…we have grown 80% in just the last year alone….(yes I said 80)

I would highly recommend you invest in a company website…FREE ones will not get you found….”

One last business owner responded “before you do anything, I would look at your competitors’ online presence. What are others in your area doing? What do their sites look like? You may not need a super pro website or even that nice of a site if theirs are really simple.

When I got started, a website was the last thing on my list of things to do. I then looked around at what my competitors were doing and I felt I didn’t need too nice of a site because no one in my area had a great site, I didn’t want to spend too much on a site when I could use the money else where. Think about your business priorities and what you need to do to stand out.”
