Ideas for marketing your lawn care business at a home show.

Most area have local events like home shows where vendors can get together to promote their products or services for the home. If you really want to be a hit at the home shows, consider these marketing ideas.

Justin wrote “I got a letter in the mail from the local municipal office and I was wondering what would you guys do for marketing at a spring home show.”

In response James offered these ideas. “Why don’t you do something like setting up a hole in one game and if they get get it in they are entered into a free month or years worth of lawn maintenance… But before they hit the ball, they have to give you their email address and contact info… While they are filling out the form, you have the opportunity to talk to them about their lawn care. Also you can give out ziplock baggies with seed in them and your business card… Do that for everyone that hits the ball and doesn’t win… Just an idea… Good luck, sounds like fun.”

You could also give away some planted flowers to those that try the shot but don’t get it in.

Justin: “That is a sweet idea. Thanks for mentioning it. I just looked at the price to rent a mini putt game and it’s only about $35. The grass seed is also a good idea. I will get a big bag of seed and I will staple some business cards to them.”

Justin also included a mower in his booth setting to show that he was a lawn care business. When he got back from the show, I asked him how the event went.

Justin: “The mini golf was more for the kids. They loved it like crazy. I gave away a round of 9 holes of golf at the local golf course here that I support a lot. Soon to be the world largest golf course. I basically just made a drawing at the end. I also did the promotion of lawn seed samples into a sandwich bag and stapled my business card on it. That was very popular.”

I asked Justin if he would do the show again next year.

Justin: “I would do it again. Next time I would get a bit more ready than I did. I was kind of last minute and not ready so yeah. Next time maybe have more equipment or something. Get pictures of my work or something and blow them up and put them on the table.”

Tony: “You could do a banner and use a banner stand if there is no where to hang it…and put pictures of your past work, etc”
