Annual lawn care bid example for a hotel.

One lawn care business owner wrote “I got a call today to do an annual lawn care  bid on a local Red Roof Inn. They told me they wanted everything from mowing, trimming, fertilization, flowers, spring and fall cleanup, irrigation start up, winterization, and mulch Installation.

Here are the details of the job:

  1. 26 mowings throughout the year including all trimming and blowing.
  2. Up to but not to exceed $500 for flowers and installation each year.
  3. Spring and fall cleanups.
  4. Edging along all parking lot curbing (2,680 linear feet approx).
  5. Edging around mulch beds (there appears to be 3 beds, 2 at the street (both 20ft x 10 ft) and one around front door area (20 ft x 10 ft).
  6. Hedge Trimming of about 30 - 35 small to medium sized bushes.

I am finding it hard to bid this job now because there is 2 feet of snow on the ground, not to mention the snow piles from plowing. All I have to work on is the image from a satellite map photo.

What I have figured so far:

  1. Mowing and trimming = 2 hours x $50 = $100 x 26 cuts = $2,600.
  2. Mulch bed prep before Installation (edge beds and weed removal) = $225.00.
  3. Mulch installation = 600 sq ft = 4 cu yds mulch (spread 2″ deep) @ 2 hrs install = $450.
  4. Hedge trimming 2 times a year = $180 x 2 = $360.00.
  5. Irrigation start in Spring and winterization in the Fall = $180 x 2 = $360.
  6. Perennial maintenance = $180 for the season.
  7. Bed weeding = $60 x 6 times a year = $360.00.
  8. Spring cleanup = $275.00.
  9. Flower planting = $400.00.
  10. Leaf and debris removal (each cut = 26 cuts) = $300.00.

Total for season = $5,510.00.

Fertilization program to include:

  • Fertilization.
  • Weed control.
  • Insect control.
  • Tree and shrub fertility.
  • Insect and disease control.

Dimension of property to be fertilized is 32,300 sq feet.

I’ll need to sub this out as I do not have licensing to do fertilization etc.

The two red topped buildings are the hotel I am bidding on. The area on each side of the driveway entrance and the far side along the major expressway (bottom of screen). I am not sure how far it needs to be serviced as yet. Using satellite imagery, I measured it as best as I could. My measurements may be off a little as I won’t know for sure until the snow is gone. I have a 42″ rider that I will be using to cut the lawn, but I may upgrade this year. To me it seems like 2 hours should be enough time to do the mowing and trimming with a helper.

I submitted this hotel lawn care bid example for $592.50 per month for 12 months. When I handed it in I heard they had gotten two total estimates and they both were similar, so will see if they accept it or not.”
