Tips when it comes to printing your own lawn care business doorhangers.

You really don’t need to spend a lot of money on your lawn care business marketing. In fact, it can be very beneficial to you to spend minimal amounts of money on small test runs of your different marketing ideas. Certain ideas or services may sell better than others. The only way to find out which is to test them. Once you do and you see positive results, you can always scale up your marketing later. Here is a great discussion from the Gopher Lawn Care Business Forum on what strategies work best when it comes to designing and printing your own lawn care door hangers to see which perform and which don’t.

One lawn care business owner asked “I have been thinking of doing some test marketing with lawn care door hangers on a limited run so I don’t want to go out and get 2,000 printed. With that said, I am wondering what is the best way to go about making and distributing your own lawn care door hangers? I would like to ideally do this for the spring mowing season but I am having trouble coming up with a graphic design and not sure how many I should print out. Also what type of paper is best to use? If you print your own, what’s the best way to cut them? I know I sound like a newbie but I am new to this self advertising stuff and want to do the best I can with the resources I have.”

Printing Lawn Care Door Hangers

A second lawn care business owner shared “I print my own lawn care door hangers on the card stock that I purchase online. The ones I buy come perforated with a spot for the door hole and are perforation to separate them in two or three a page. You can order them with 2 on a page or 3 to a page. I have even seen card stock perforated for 4 on a page post card format. In order to get the best deals, you can order several thousand blank pages at a time.

For graphic design, I use a local print shop to design them. It has worked well for my needs.

Before I print any lawn care door hanger, I always set my printer to print on draft mode. That way it uses less ink and you can get more copies that way. They still look good but are just a touch lighter, though still colorful.

I customize my door hangers to suit my needs to what ever service I am pushing that time of year. If I need just a few hundred, I print them up. Next week, I may want to target a different service and I can print up a few hundred more, and so on. The cost for me is the same per piece if I print 100 or 1000 or 5000. By setting the printing to draft mode instead of normal or best mode, it reduces the printing cost and allows me to still use color and get more copies per cartridge.

The different service I promote on my different lawn care door hangers are :

I usually have a few of each design in the truck. When we pass by a property that could use one of our services, we leave a specific door hanger.

Mulch is a big spring time job, so I start with that. Then as we go through doing our door hangers, on the other side of the door hanger I will have our mowing information. Why not kill 2 birds with one stone. Once we get into the season, then the door hanger will have mowing, weeding, hedge trimming, edging on the front and back as well.

You can’t just create one design and think it will sell every service for you all year long. You need to mix things up and hit the same potential customer base over and over again throughout the year. Your response rates drastically improve by doing this.”
