Newspaper classified ad ideas for a lawn care business.

Depending on the amount of competitors in your local newspaper, placing a classified ad can sometimes really lead to a windfall of new customers. As we will see in this discussion from the Gopher Lawn Care Business Forum, choosing the right wording will give your potential customers a call to action. Let’s see an example of how to do this.

One lawn care business owner wrote “the local newspaper has a 13 week special for business ads that I am thinking of trying out. The cost is $73 per month if you pay before the 15th. That would take me thru the 1st week of November, which would take in the 2nd half of the growing season and into fall.

How does this look before I place the ad??

Business Name - Quality Lawn Care
Mow-Trim-Organic fertilizer
Scheduling fall leaf removal

Any advice?”

A second lawn care business owner said “I have ALWAYS liked those business classified sections that many newspapers offer. They have never failed to attract customers. All it takes is one new lawn care customer to easily repay your ad price.

Do you know how many words you are allowed to use in the ad? It’s a good opportunity to put a plug like ‘If you have compacted soil/clay, we have an organic product that can solve it.’ What other services do you offer? Gutter cleaning, hedge trimming, winter lawn preparation etc. You need to include them.

I always like to leave a question to get the prospect to call. Other ideas you could use are ‘What do you do for compacted soil? What are you doing to prepare your lawn for the winter? Etc.’ In short add something to your ad to get their attention and something the competition is not putting in theirs. Even if you can put your website in the ad and then add services to your website or put what it is you do, it will benefit you.

I have an ad in the classifieds section of the area newspaper where 90% of our work comes from. Around here, most communities have their own paper. I run this ad  in the Spring and Fall. I think it’s around $125.00 a month but OMG the calls we get. At least 100 per month! I pull them in the summer because we have grown as much as I want to during this season.”

A third lawn care business owner suggested “I’d go with something like,

Do you have Compacted Soil?

We have an organic solution.

Lawn winterizing preparation.

Quality Lawn care 000-000-2217

That should get you some attention and callers.”
