Festival of Christmas Trees marketing idea.

Here is a great way to reach out to your community, build great bonds, and attract new customers. Host a Festival of Trees! This is a great lawn care marketing idea shared on the Gopher Lawn Care Business Forum.

Find a local hall / facility that can comfortably hold up to 20 different Christmas trees and space for neighbors to walk through the area and see the different trees. This could be at a local VFW, Garden Center, Fire House, etc. Get 10 to 20 Christmas trees either at a discount or see if you can get them donated. Then have different businesses in your area decorate them.

Each business can go as big or small with their decorations as they want. They can have a sign displaying who decorated the tree and have business cards on the sign to give out. A holiday diorama can be set up around the tree if the business is really into the creative aspect of it.

Then create flyers and get them out to the community to invite them to the festival. Potentially have an admission of one can of food that you could collect for your local food pantry. Send out press releases to the local media outlets, such as newspaper, tv, radio.

Have a silent auction of the trees that will raise money for a local charity or give them away to local needy families, veterans, or others you might find worthy of them. Doing so will really make it a newsworthy event and help position you and your company as one that really cares and gives back to the community.

Of course you would decorate one of the trees and make sure in your marketing material that you promote yourself as the organizer of the event.

Potentially have the event run:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 1, to Friday, Dec. 4. Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday with a reception from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday
  • 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, with a social beginning at 6 p.m. and tree auction at 7 p.m.
  • and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.

At the event, you could also have you or one of your staff dressing up as Santa to give parents an opportunity to have their kids take a free picture with Santa. Free t-shirts could be given away too that list the sponsors of the event. A local deli could help cater the event as well by selling food and drink. Try this idea out and scale it up each year you do it based on interest.
