Compare your answers to these 5 lawn care business questions.

Do you ever wonder how your daily thinking and mind process compares with others in the mowing business? In this discussion from the Gopher Lawn Care Business Forum, five questions were asked about different parts of the working day.

  1. What is your first thought when waking up in the morning?
  2. How do you feel when approaching your first lawn of the day?
  3. What are you thinking, when you notice a client walk outside while you are working?
  4. How do you feel when loading up the trailer, having once completed your last lawn for the day?
  5. What do you do once you get home?

Take a moment and think about how you would answer them and then compare and contrast your answers to what others responded.

One lawn care business owner responded “What is your first thought when waking up in the morning?
I wish I slept more. I can’t believe how many things I have to do in order to get ready… Shower, change, have coffee, brush teeth, pick up guy, load trailer… all over again.

How do you feel when approaching your first lawn of the day?
So it begins. Sigh…

What are you thinking, when you notice a client walk outside while you are working?
Oh, please leave me alone, and get out of my way! I don’t want to talk, ever, disappear!!!

How do you feel when loading up the trailer, having once completed your last lawn for the day?
Victory!

What do you do once you get home?
Shower… lie in bed with the laptop until bedtime.”

A second lawn care business owner said “What is your first thought when waking up in the morning?
How many yards do I have today? Can I sleep 1 more hour and still get them done on time?

How do you feel when approaching your first lawn of the day?
Why me!?

What are you thinking, when you notice a client walk outside while you are working?
Maybe I can upsell him on something.

How do you feel when loading up the trailer, having once completed your last lawn for the day?
I don’t have a trailer so I think about how bad my back hurts from loading this mower back into the bed of the truck for the 10th time today.

What do you do once you get home?
Listen to complaints about how lazy I am.”

A third shared “What is your first thought when waking up in the morning?
Not much thinking in the morning, I just bounce off of things until I make it out to the truck.

How do you feel when approaching your first lawn of the day?
I enjoy working in the morning. It seems like the first one after lunch is the hardest one for me to get through.

What are you thinking, when you notice a client walk outside while you are working?
It’s usually to hand me money, so I am ok with it. (unless it is hot, then I pretty much hate everybody)

What do you do once you get home?
Shower & find the nearest couch.”

A fourth added “What is your first thought when waking up in the morning?
I should have sharpened blades last night so I could have slept in a few extra minutes this morning instead of having to sharpen them.

How do you feel when approaching your first lawn of the day?
Ah this is going to be a good day.

What are you thinking, when you notice a client walk outside while you are working?
I honestly do not mind, they all have good things to say or ask if I could do something for them. Most know it will cost them extra, they’re just letting me know they need it done. It’s like every bad aspect of a customer was in that one memorable customer I had who skipped out on paying me and abandoned her home and everyone else is nice.

How do you feel when loading up the trailer, having once completed your last lawn for the day?
I feel good…Put in a good days work. A good feeling of accomplishment.

What do you do once you get home?
Sharpen blades so I can sleep in, do a rain dance, clean up the garage, go in and let the dog tackle me, kiss the wife, take a shower, eat, do paperwork if needed then whatever is on the agenda for the night.”
