It’s amazing how a kind gesture can help really improve your relations with a lawn care customer and with such an improvement comes a lot of positive things your way. Word of mouth advertising is born this way. From a simple seed grows good will through out your community. One lawn care business owner wrote “I have a disabled lady who needs a mailbox put in. She has the post, and the box. She just needs the old one taken out and the new one put in. The old one does not have any concrete. She bought a six foot mail post.

Here is a little background to the situation. She is a current lawn care customer. However, this is where it gets kinda strange. She has a current lawn care contract with another lawn care business that is for a year, which does end soon. She hasn’t gotten out of the lawn care contract yet because there is a fee to cancel that is $350.

Because of this, she has hired me to do the other property care stuff the ‘regular’ lawn care business provider won’t because he doen’t want to take the time to give her a quote. She also likes me, because I help her carry in her groceries and stuff a lot when I’m there working. She says she goes shopping on purpose if she knows I will be there to help her. I could really use a little cash, since February was SLOW but I don’t want to over charge her.

She gave me a receipt from lowes to pick up the post for her. When it gets a little warmer out since she has moss in her lawn, she wants me to spread some fertilizer and moss killer. She also wants me to renovate her front lawn.

A second lawn care business owner said “sometimes a kind gesture by us is one of the most powerful lawn care marketing tools there is. I would do it for free and have done similar things at no charge and it really paid off. I didn’t do it to get more lawn care business, I did it because the clients were good. In this case for me, I’d do it at no charge.”

A third lawn care business owner said “this job would take you no time at all. Another thing to keep in mind is that older people usually know A LOT of other people in their area and they like telling them about the nice person who installed their mail box for free… or the nice young man who trimmed their hedges for free. So keep that in mind and consider doing it for free.”
